2003 Show "Rhythms and Ideologies:The Unclear Nature of Good and Evil"

rurounix34.jpeg

Theme of the show:  We will attempt to explore the moral implications of revolutionary conflicts.  In such conflicts, the line between good and evil is not always clear, in that both sides fight to establish an idea that they believe is good while committing acts of evil to achieve their goals.  Though it is uncertain which Ideologies become implemented or set aside, when human beings are willing to go to war over these ideas, bloodshed is the only certainty.  Our setting will be the Japanese Bakumatsu (Revolution) in the Edo period and we shall attempt to characterize a fight between two warring clans (Gold and Silver).

Musical interpretation of the Theme:  The music comes from the soundtrack of two Japanese Anime based on Rurouni Kenshin, one of which has yet to be released in this country.  The story focuses on the life of Kenshin, a swordsman who fought during the Bakumatsu to side with Imperialist Ideology against the Tokugawa Shogunate.  He eventually realizes his mistake at the end of the conflict and re-dedicates his life to protecting others.  The soundtrack was arranged and composed by Taku Iwasaki.
